These make fruit and veg fun and appealing to kids and its important they eat a variety so anything to attract them is good. You can make attractive salads with shreds or julienne veg, and make ribbons of veg to cook as a kind of vegetable pasta or deep fry for crisps. The spiralizer comes with a selection of different blades which are quick and easy to change according to what you want. Simply unclip the top edge, pull out blade ( tip: use a cloth, I didn’t and cut my finger…) and replace with whichever one needed, lock down top and its ready. It comes with a handy peeler that makes wafer thin crisps and is great for peeling root veg such as potatoes or carrots. It also has a little brush for cleaning and a special spiked cap for when using small veg or reaching the ends. I’ve used the peeler for making potato crisps and the julienne part of the spiralizer for coleslaw.
Often I use apple instead of cabbage so a simple apple and carrot julienne plus onions peeled thinly with the peeler and mayo makes a coleslaw all kids seem to love. When doing onions I hold with a fork, its very sharp and easy to shred fingers too…..larger veg are easier to hold but for small ones like onions I find a fork useful. for the crisps simply add a little salt, or some chilli or BBQ powder, a little grated parmesan when cooked but still warm and you’ve a number of different flavours. As well as deep frying you can lay on baking tray in single layers and cook that way for a healthier option
