Review from Jeannie’s Product Reviews
I’m not really a knitter as mum and nan were, but can do basic knit and purl and granddaughter number four recently mentioned she wanted to learn. She’s seven so just the right age. So this set was very timely and saved her from tuition using pencils which was how I taught grandson number one….Hey, don’t knock it – it works!
She was here on Sunday and we out them to the test. She found them easy to handle, the actual bamboo shaft was just the right size for her, not as long and unwieldy as conventional needles. We chose a medium size one for her to try out and she made a good effort. She’s taken them home to practice…will probably drive her mum mad asking for help 😉 Of course I couldn’t find any wool so had to unravel an old jumper. Nan, who was an avid knitter, always used to unravel old jumpers and cardis, wash the wool then I’d have to sit holding hands about 12 ins apart while she wound the wool into skeins ready to re-use. Does anyone do that now I wonder?? I didn’t go as far as that, just unravelled enough for her to practise with, promising I’ll remember to but some wool for next time.
These needles are connected so you don’t have to worry about knitting falling off the end of the needles ( or pencils!) and a great way to learn. They are very colourful and come in a number of different thicknesses. I see some reviewers have found the bamboo ends splitting a little, that hasn’t happened to my but I’d guess simply sanding them down lightly would bring everything down and of course if you’re a serious knitter you could always varnish the bamboo ends to add a layer of protection to prevent possible splitting.
They’re are fun and effective whether you’re doing something that would normally need two needles or just want to make a circular scarf or legwarmers or similar.
