Home Surveillance IP Camera and Car Dash Camera

This arrived well packed, in a secure cardboard box. For the price I was expecting something plastic and cheaply made, but this is much more sturdy than I’d thought and looks very attractive. Everything needed for fitting it where you want is supplied, and its just a matter of getting it out and setting it up.  That’s when I found that once again an SD card is recommended but not supplied…luckily I had one to hand. They’re cheap, and bought in bulk must cost even less so why don’t suppliers include this especially as had happened to me twice recently products won’t work without one.

The instructions are not really easy to follow but luckily the app makes it idiot proof, and even a non tech person like myself could follow. What I liked was that there are specific pictures showing that you’ve arrived at the right place if what you have on your phone matches the one in the book! great for non tech people like myself. What I didn’t like was the long list of permissions the app comes with, allowing it to make changes but that seems standard now. Maybe I’m just a cynic but I like to think I’m in control of my tech items…  I’ve hit a hiccup though after installing it to my phone so had to put aside to try later as I was getting frustrated. Its probably user error and something really simple but from experience after a few tries its best to put away for later and a fresh look. ( or call Help and one of the kids will visit and fix things!!)

Well, after retrying all went well, and I found it easy to access all I needed. Its great that there are so many options, though as a tentative user I didn’t try all the functions. I know when the family are over the men and the grandkids will be keen to play around with this. (I’m not being sexist, the females in our family don’t do tech!)

As its easy to access via phone wherever there’s Wi-Fi (but doesn’t support 5G ) it means peace of mind. You can watch your home while at work or on holiday, check on pets, even keep an eye on expected (or look out for unexpected!) visitors, childcare and children etc. Ensure babies are safe while you’re busy elsewhere in the home or garden, and the two way audio allows you to reassure them in the event they need you.  Its a small amount to pay for being able to relax and not worry about home. In the event of any issues you can have pictures or videos to back up what actually happened. They can be time and date stamped too, so are perfect reference materials.

The tech side I’ve not commented on, just the practicalities, as I just don’t really know what it all means! Often I get the younger members of the family to trial things like this, but this time none are available just now. If they do play around and have further comments I’ll add them later. The three year warranty is excellent, and very welcome to see a company have such confidence in their product.

Stars: Five, cheap for peace of mind.

This arrived well packed, in a secure cardboard box. Its a very attractive unit and seems simple to use, even for a tech idiot like myself. That’s when I found that once again it needs an SD card,  but one is not supplied…luckily I had one to hand after testing another device where one was needed but not supplied. I had a Toshiba  16 GB  Micro SD Card with Adapter but it will take up to 32 gb. They’re cheap, and bought in bulk must cost even less so why don’t suppliers include this especially as had happened to me twice recently some products won’t work without one.

The instruction leaflet is pretty clear but a few literal translations made me smile. Then again I only speak English so my translations to another language would be awful….I gave it a quick charge via a USB bank, it has USB cable but no charging socket, though with phones and kindles we’ve a few of them around anyway, and its designed to be left in car, charging from lighter socket so its not really needed. The battery bank was just to hand, that’s why I used it. It soon opens up with images on the screen being very clear. The buttons are really self explanatory, though I did best just playing around to see what they did…I must be a secret male, I hate reading instructions 😉 The suction cap to stick it on screen adhered firmly, and I’m confident that would stay on OK. The lead to connect to cigarette socket is long enough to reach easily. It needs connection when in use, battery lasts only a few minutes if unplugged, so ensure your lighter stays on when engine is off if you want to leave it running when parked( useful) as not all do.
It has a choice of different video quality settings, a wide angle lens – very useful, and a microphone though I’m not sure what that’s for. Recording details not on screen maybe, weather, traffic etc if involved in an accident? That could be useful. It can be played back on TV to get a big screen view via an HMDI cable but that’s not included and we haven’t one. Our TV is over 8 years old so I’m not even sure if it has the sockets for one. Another thing to ask the family when they visit. The sensor which locks the video in the event of accident, and prevents it being recorded over is very handy. It also has a GPS function which for travellers is another useful feature.

The actual tech side I’ve not commented on, just the practicalities, as I just don’t really know what it all means! Often I get the younger members of the family to trial things like this, but this time none are available just now. If they do play around and have further comments I’ll add them later.

Stars: Five, excellent for people who travel widely.

About jeanniezelos

I'm an avid reader, love my kindle and I have my head in a novel for hours daily : ) Mum used to say I'd read toilet paper if it was printed- it wasn't, so i had to contend myself with the back and sides of the cereal packets. I've always Needed to read and we had few books when i was a child hence my penchant for reading anything including adverts then... I review mainly contemporary, erotic and paranormal romance books though dystopian and urban fantasy also appeal. I'm currently rated around the 300 mark on amazon.co.uk for my reviews. I try to keep them structured and to say what I do and don't like about a book so other readers can use my review as a guide to whether they may enjoy the book.
