I’m a real nuisance at getting burned, and also have set my usual fabric oven gloves on fire twice, by leaving them on the hob, while forgetting to switch off the gas….So these seemed like something good for me to trial.
they’re bright, very, very bright orange so I shouldn’t forget where I’ve put them. Though that’s great for me I can see that those people who pride themselves on a tidy home and who have everything colour coordinated will tuck these in a drawer out of sight – and of course then things just don’t get used do they? Unless of course you’ve a Mediterranean style kitchen in vibrant apricots, sunny yellows and terracotta, in which case they’ll blend perfectly…they don’t have that horrible latex/rubber smell that I hate, and expected so that was a bonus. They’ve some very thick texturing on the outside so nothing, even slippery glass Pyrex dishes, should slide out of hands. They’re very flexible and its easy to grip with them, the finger designs is so much better than conventional “mitten” style for grip. I have medium size hands and I found they were ok, a little sticky to put on but my husband found them quite difficult to get on, although they did stretch to his size. Maybe some talc inside would have made them easier? That’s not something most people keep in the kitchen though!

Well, functionality – that’s the important bit. I used these in the kitchen and they were fine with oven trays, Pyrex dishes and hot saucepans. I did feel the steam from the saucepans felt a bit warm through them but didn’t scald. They don’t go far past wrist though so don’t stop those lower arm burns I’m always getting from oven trays ( two – every time – I hit the lower shelf and then the shock means i jerk my arm up and hot upper shelf!) so I prefer gloves that go past wrist to cover lower arm. for the same reason I wouldn’t recommend them for BBQ’s and of course that tends to be male dominated so there’s also the size issue to contend with.
Stars: four, if they were in a sm – med – lge size format and went past the wrist I’d give these a five.
